In one of the more bizarre instances, Victor Wembanyama‘s security professional resorted to violence when this celebrity approached him.

The fan-favorite NBA rookie is in Vegas for his debut Summer League game for the San Antonio Spurs against the Charlotte Hornets. Britney Spears is not the pop sensation she was in the late 90s and early 2000s, but millions recognize her instantly. She was in Vegas too, and in the vicinity of the star. Early reports suggest that Spears spotted Wemby having dinner in the restaurant Catch, which is in Vegas. She went to interact with him as a fan and tapped his shoulder to have a photo. But the Spurs’ Director of Team Security, Damian Smith, backhanded her in such a way that she fell to the ground and her glasses came off. 

As per Damian Smith, he didn’t recognize that it was the pop maestro Britney Spears who he had hurt. After apologizing, his explanation was “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans”. Although she accepted his apology, later she pressed charges of assault against Smith. Some sources suggest that the whole issue is not being seen as a criminal issue, as police deemed that the instantaneous reaction of Smith came in defense of the limelight-grabbing rookie.
