Teenage LeBron James still miles ahead of Coco Gauff

LeBron James in high school was on a whole different level. Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan was in his twilight years when James dominated the basketball court at the high school level. People needed someone to take the reins from Jordan and LeBron was a perfect match. Despite being constantly targeted by fans and the media, James lived up to the hype. And, Coco Gauff might just be the next LeBron of tennis. After all, she is the US Open champion at just 19 years of age!

Following her emphatic win, Gauff secured a huge $3 million cheque. While this might sound like a huge amount for a 19-year-old, this is nothing compared to what James earned. The 19-year-old James was signed to a 7-year $90 million deal with Nike. The Cleveland Cavaliers star reportedly earned $30 million annually thanks to this deal.

Gauff had a LeBron-esque run to the US Open title

Coco Gauff’s first US Open tournament ended in tears four years ago. She came into the tournament having made huge strides in Wimbledon as a 15-year-old. She met defending US Open champion Naomi Osaka in the third round, but it was an underwhelming outing for her. Four years after this heartbreak, Gauff came back and how.

The 19-year-old defeated the likes of 10th seed Karolina Muchova and 2nd seed Aryna Sabalenka. She faced a formidable opponent in Sabalenka in the US Open Finals. Sabalenka will soon be world number 1 in tennis, and Gauff’s massive win over her will surely do wonders for her confidence and career. “Oh my goodness, it means so much to me. I feel like I’m a little bit in shock in this moment”, said Gauff who became the youngest American to win the US Open since the great Serena Williams in 1999.
