As a parent, the instinct is always to keep protecting your children through any adversity. Sonya Curry was no different. As a mother watching her two children, Seth and Steph Curry emerge as basketball stans, she tried to be their shield. But eventually, there comes a time when the bird flies from their nest. The Curry brothers too had such moments as they ascended closer to their NBA vision. While their focus and priorities switched, the mother of three had to learn how to be content with not being the “mommy coach”.

During an appearance on SWAY’S UNIVERSE with Shaq’s mom Lucille, Sonya Curry recalled the moment she had to relinquish herself from actively meddling in her children’s basketball career. As Steph Curry and Seth progressed further, her involvement gradually declined. By the time they got to college, Sonya Curry had to adapt and merely be there for her two sons.

“That means you just be quiet. You cheer and then most of the time they look up in the stands and I am praying. I am literally praying and got my head down like lord help them… What I have learned from them is be present, be there, and enjoy the game. So I have had to learn now how to just be a spectator and have fun,” Sonya Curry revealed on SWAY’S UNIVERSE.

It’s not that Steph Curry and his younger brother Seth don’t need their families. Even today, they both invite their parents, partners, and children to most of their games. According to Sonya Curry, the Baby Face Assassin always wants to know where his family is and make contact. There are moments he shares with either his wife Ayesha or at times he embraces his children after the game.

Even though their involvement in his basketball endeavors has reduced, the family remains the Curry brothers’ strongest motivators. No matter how passive their role is, they find the ease of comfort once they see their close ones in the stands cheering and relishing in their success.

“During the offseason, I have much more time with my kids, so I’m trying to do as many fun things as possible and do little things like showing up to their practices. Carpooling is an amazing time [chuckles]. The beauty of it is that you come to appreciate all the little things that seem kind of mundane or routine” he told Christian Learning.
