The Lakers (13-9) and the Pelicans (12-10) have made it to the semi-finals of the In-season tournament and will battle it out in Las Vegas tonight to earn a spot at the final that is set to go down this Saturday. While the Purple and Gold boast LeBron and AD as one of the best duos presently, the Pelicans also have the Brandon Ingram–Zion Williamson duo, a powerful match-up.

Tonight, as these two pairs go head-to-head against each other, we have former NBA star Austin Rivers sharing his thoughts on who is the better duo among the two. For him, it is the younger Ingram-Zion duo as opposed to the veteran pair.

Zion’s biggest advantage has been his build
Right off the bad, Rivers says, “Imma with the youth, man. I’m going with Zion and Ingram, especially as of late.” Zion’s advantage has always been his build, River continues; “I mean, this guy’s on the floor, man. There is nobody physically in the NBA that can guard him. He is a matchup nightmare.” Standing at 6’6″ and with a strong build, Zion is too big for smaller guards and too quick for center, Rivers says.

He is going for the young bloods over the veterans, and Rivers just might be on the right track, because both Bron and AD are pretty beaten up this season, dealing with one or the other minor injuries. For Rivers, this semifinal game will be the most exciting one, and there’s a reason for that; he wants to see Zion and AD go at it.

Rivers wants one of them to establish themselves early
In the upcoming game, he wants to see one of these two establish themself early on in the game, “I’m talking about first quarter, second quarter,” Rivers says. “Zion’s got to go through AD’s chest…..Every single time he’s got to play that physical inside out. And I would like to see AD do the same thing.”

Rivers has done his homework here; he adds that although AD might be lacking in physicality as compared to Zion, he still has an advantage in size, length, and reach, which he should employ in tonight’s game against the young forward.
