Under the tutelage of head coach Mike Brown, the Sacramento Kings look like a totally different team than they were a few seasons ago. Brown had an immediate impact on the team, ending their 17-year playoff drought in just his first year. This season, the Kings continue to thrive, currently occupying the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings with an impressive 30-21 record. Beyond his team’s achievements, Mike has another reason to celebrate. His son Cameron Brown is set to make his debut at the Super Bowl as the defensive quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers.

From tutoring youth interested in football to making it to the Super Bowl in just his first year, Cameron has made remarkable strides. Prior to joining the 49ers, he joined Case Western Reserve University’s staff as a volunteer assistant defensive line coach and slowly worked his way up to the position of outside linebacker coach before the 2022 campaign.

During his undergraduate years at Case Western Reserve (2016–19), Brown distinguished himself as a standout defensive end. He holds the university record for career sacks, boasting an impressive 34.5, and also holds the record for single-season sacks with 15.

In addition, Brown earned recognition on the 2018 AFCA Division III Coaches’-All-America Second Team and made history as the first player in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference to be named Defensive Player of the Year twice. Notably, Brown is one of only four players in CWRU history to receive All-PAC honors four times during his university career.

And now, in his role as the defensive quality control coach, he makes “easily digestible” analytic breakdowns of opposing offenses. This includes providing valuable insights into their strategies in crucial situations, such as the red zone and two-minute drills. Additionally, he identifies situational statistical tips to enhance the Niners’ defensive performance and compiles analytical reports on upcoming opponents.

Mike Brown will miss his son’s Super Bowl debut

According to Cameron, winning the Super Bowl in his first season would be the “perfect start to his NFL career.” He will have his mother, brother, and friends out in Las Vegas to cheer him and the Niners on during the big game. Unfortunately, his father won’t be able to make it for his son’s Super Bowl debut game.

Super Bowl LVIII tips off at 3 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Mike’s Kings take on the Thunder at 6:30 p.m. ET in Oklahoma. A direct commercial flight from Oklahoma City to Las Vegas takes about three hours. Therefore, he won’t be able to make it on time for the Kings game and will be watching his son’s game from afar on television instead. However, Mike is excited that, hopefully, if everything goes well, he’ll get to attend the parade in San Francisco. “I am going to try to get to that parade. I’m so excited,” said Mike during an interview with Andscape.
