In the world of basketball, discussions about the greatest players of all time are never-ending. They make up for some of the most passionate debates we see or participate in, be it through a fan, analyst or former player. Shaquille O’Neal recently named Stephen Curry as his favorite player, and that he wants to be alongside him in a duo. Gilbert Arenas and others recently discussed their starting top 5 against the iconic team of ‘Monstars’ from Space Jam. Additionally, Paul George has a tendency to ask players about their greatest player picks on his podcast.

The debates and questions are never-ending. Recently, an NBA legend and one of the most revered figures of the sport, Julius Erving, shared his personal Top 10 players of all time in a compelling interview. Since then, his picks have fashionably added to controversies and unique reactions. However, the crew at First Things First had a different argument when it came to GOAT contender LeBron James.

MJ’s trainer notoriously debated Jordan supreme over LeBron

According to Jordan’s trainer, Tim Grover, LeBron’s signature shoe line hasn’t had as much cultural influence as Michael Jordan‘s Air Jordans. He believes that the legacy of his sneakers reflects Jordan’s unparalleled status in basketball. During the latest episode of First Things First, their panel engaged in a brief but heated discussion about Grover’s comments. Wright’s main inquiry came along with the ‘non-basketball factor’ justification. Host Nick Wright strongly disapproved and was appalled at Grover’s use of sneakers as a decisive factor in the GOAT debate.

He claimed Grover’s biggest asset is the sneaker comment, “His final take being [to make his point], his shoes are better.” Chris Broussard countered by saying, “Have you ever heard anyone give a top 5 list, or a top 10 list and not have Michael Jordan on it?”

According to Wright, when presenting arguments in the debate, one should disregard non-basketball factors or consider them collectively.

While Chris Broussard said he has LeBron at #2 on his list, he mentioned how Ray Allen, Stephen Curry, Paul Pierce, and the legendary Dr. J Erving, didn’t have James on their lists.

Dr. J names his top-10 players, snubs out Stephen Curry and LBJ

In a recent intriguing interview with NBA personality Joy De’Angela, Julius Erving revealed his Top 10 players of all time. The list featured iconic names such as Nathaniel Archibald, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Karl Malone. Surprisingly, Erving’s list did not include LeBron James and Stephen Curry, raising eyebrows among many.

However, it was just retired NBA players that Dr. J was considering. But, if you take that burn out, players like Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Shaquille O’Neal still didn’t make it to his list.
