In the recent episode of his podcast, “The Big Podcast with Shaq”, Shaq revealed he is planning to change his name to ‘Sex Symbol’. Other people on the podcast did point out that his mother, Lucille O’Neal might not be a fan of the name. To which Shaq humorously replied, “She’ll be mad but when she leaves, I’ll be a sex symbol”.
Shaq and his history of absurd statements
The four-time champion is famous for being in the news time and again for his statements. It’s not just after his retirement, during his career as a player he did not held back. He once quoted “If you go 72-11 and don’t win (the championship), it doesn’t mean anything. Actually it does. It means you’ve cheated and played an extra regular-season game.”.
It’s not just his game that he has absurd statements on. While talking about his future as a NASCAR driver he said “I’m tired of hearing about money, money, money, money, money. I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok.”
Shaq and his history of backlash
It’s not always that people take Shaq’s statements as joke. Many a time, people are offended, and he tends to face backlash. He once during his career quoted “Tell Yao Ming, ‘ching chong yang wah ah soh.’” Many people considered it racist and gave it back to Shaq.

Last year, he came under a lot of heat when he got into a feud with Donovan Mitchell. While talking to Mitchell after his great game Shaq said “I said tonight that you are one of my favourite players, but you don’t have what it takes to get to the next level.” This statement went well neither with Mitchell nor with Jazz fans and Shaq was trolled heavily for it.
Well, now that the 7 ft star has made up his mind, it will be nice to see if he actually goes ahead with it or not.
