Draymond Green was dubbed a “tweener” in his NBA scouting report because he was undersized for a physical forward and also lacked the athleticism of a wing. Turns out, because of his physicality, relentless motor, and fiery passion for the game, he can defend practically any player at any position. However, because of his determination to win, some people view him as a dirty player. Hence, he is one of the league’s most hated players.
Green is renowned for having an outspoken character. What he says is what he thinks or feels. And that, in turn, also invites hatred. Jason Whitlock, the host of the popular podcast “Fearless” voiced an issue with Green’s personality and compared him to Charles Barkley.
Whitlock said, “I consider him (Draymond Green) a bit overhyped, not as a player but as a personality. He’s a different kind of Charles Barkley because as great of a player Charles was, if he got in shape early in his career, he would’ve accomplished more on the court. I love Charles, but I would have to say, as great as his career was, he a bit underachieved because of his lack of maturity…. and I’m gonna say the same thing will hold true for Draymond Green”.

Draymond Green is gifted, and he isn’t hesitant to let people know. When he makes a lockdown defensive play and immediately starts taunting the crowd or player, it may infuriate some fans. Or perhaps when he celebrates a pointless bucket after the Warriors are already up big. Maybe that’s what Whitlock called “immature” about Draymond, but that’s just his fierce and never-ending passion for the game.
Whitlock also described Charles Barkley as “underachieved.” Yes, Barkley never won a championship, but it does not diminish his legacy in the NBA; he is a former MVP and is widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards of all time. When comparing Barkley’s personality to Green, Whitlock also hinted at the Warriors forward as “underachieved”. Fair to say, few would claim that a three-time NBA champion and one-time DPOY to have underachieved.
Draymond Green and Charles Barkley comparisons have been thrown around
While Jason Whitlock linked Green and Barkley’s personalities, there have also been comparisons between their playing styles. Both athletes are undersized power forwards who play 3-4 inches bigger than their stature. However, the playing styles of both players are vastly different.

Charles Barkley, at 6’6, gave his generation’s other power forwards a run for their money. He snatched rebounds at an unstoppable rate on both ends and scored at will inside the paint. The 11-time All-Star was always undersized and overweight for his position, but it did not deter him from running havoc on the opposition. He was a dominant rebounder, a dominant defender, and a capable three-point shooter.
Talking about Draymond Green, the Warriors forward is the ultimate “Glue Guy”. He can defend the best player on a team, play center, swat shots, hit threes, and totally clog up the stat sheet. One should not attempt to pigeonhole Green as one type of player because that’s not who he is. The former defensive player of the year can be characterized as a jack of all trades and master of none.

Therefore, it is fair to conclude that Draymond is not Barkley 2.0. Draymond Green is Draymond Green, and Charles Barkley is Charles Barkley, and that is what will or has defined both players’ NBA legacies.
