Ja Morant‘s gun stunts have already stunted his upcoming season. He drew flak from his father and vitriol from veterans for his mindless actions. He even faced a raging music of a DJ over his delusional social media acts. But the talented Memphis Grizzlies superstar is still expected to make a strong comeback in the court.
As of now, Morant is grounded. And during this phase of his life, the NBA suspension is only costing him dear.

Ja Morant’s $7.6 Million Dollars Loss
In 2022, Ja Morant signed a max rookie contract extension, which would net him $194 million dollars in five years. But in early March, the league suspended Morant because of a gun incident. That suspension cost Morant upwards of $650,000 dollars.

After the 8-game suspension, the dynamic point guard stepped onto the court to help the Grizzlies secure a playoffs berth. But in less than two after his first incident, Ja was seen displaying a firearm in a live stream video on Instagram. This led NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to suspend Morant for 25 games without pay. This is the harshest punishment Adam Silver has dished out in his tenure as the NBA Commissioner.
Twenty-five games without pay results in Ja losing almost $7.6 million dollars in earnings.

Ja Morant’s Return
Memphis Grizzlies fans would be hoping that their franchise superstar comes back with a vengeance and dominate the other 57 regular season games. The 25-game suspension also took Morant out of the running for any postseason awards because the new rules state that a player must play more than 65 games to be eligible for the awards. Morant has averaged 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.4 assist per game, throughout his NBA career.

The Memphis Grizzlies have coped well whenever Morant wasn’t available to play. They have the reigning Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) in Jaren Jackson Jr., a sharpshooter in Desmond Bane. They have also added the veteran presence of Derrick Rose in the backcourt. But the Grizzlies will be without nifty backup point guard, Tyus Jones and the defensive presence of the league ‘villain’, Dillon Brooks.
