This year’s NBA offseason has constantly been one big headline after another. From stars signing massive deals to franchise players requesting trades, it’s hard to comprehend that free agency just opened. Amidst the millions being spent, an Indiana Pacers All-Star left the NBA world in disbelief after signing the second biggest contract currently in the NBA. It was such a huge deal that even got him a celebratory phone call from none other than Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Only $10 million shy of Nikola Jokic’s Supermax contract, the Indiana Pacers may have finally found the cornerstone of their franchise. Offering this 23-year-old a huge $260 million contract, the Pacers will hope to achieve great success over the next decade.

The All-Star point guard of the Indiana Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton, just inked a huge five-year deal with the team. Tyrese Haliburton’s deal is the second-largest NBA contract amongst players, all-time, and the largest in franchise history. His contract is only $10 million short of Nikola Jokic’s $270 million deal with the Denver Nuggets. While the extension is based on bonuses, there is optimism that he’ll achieve them.

After inking the humongous deal with the Pacers, Haliburton must’ve got numerous calls to congratulate him. One of which was from boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather. Haliburton uploaded a screenshot of him having a conversation with Mayweather on his Instagram stories. While the details of the call remain undisclosed, fans can be sure that this was one of the biggest indications that Haliburton is now a certified star.

Tyrese Haliburton had already displayed signs of being a big name in the league. His first All-Star appearance while playing for the Pacers assured the team’s front office that they may have finally gotten what they were looking for all this while. He soared to an average career-best 20.7 in 2022-23, including his assists that have trended up to a career-high of 10.4 per game.

In doing so, Haliburton rose to become only the 15th payer in NBA history to average 20 points and 10 assists in a season. Adding another feather to his cap, his designated rookie scale contract extension is $205.9 million for five years. After bonuses, it could spike to the amount that’s been reported, which makes it the second-biggest contract of all time. But who are the others on the list?

Prior to Haliburton’s extension, Bradley Beal was on the second spot after signing a 5-year, $250 million extension with the Washington Wizards. He was followed by Devin Booker and Karl-Anthony Towns, who both signed contracts worth $234 million. 2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo signed a 5-year, $228 million extension as well.

Meanwhile, Stephen Curry is on a 4-year, $215 million deal. 4x NBA champion LeBron James signed a 2-year, $97 million extension with the Lakers last year in order to have flexibility when his son, Bronny enters the league. Given how the 6’5 point guard has played in his first year with the Pacers, Haliburton now has a chance to earn more than all of these big names!
