Tolokonnikova spent nearly two years in a penal colony for protesting against President Vladimir Putin; under ‘hooliganism’ charges. In a recent interview with MSNBC, the Pussy Riot member was worried that Brittney Griner is being held in the IK-2, the harshest colony in the Russian prison system. Brittney Griner could face torture & inhumane labor

The 34-year-old stated that prisoners have to work in slave-like conditions for up to 17 hours a day with no days off in IK-2. If the inmates fail to fulfill their daily quota, they face daily torture; resulting in suicides sometimes. In addition, she reckoned that the prison doctors also refrain from acknowledging the torture.

Further, Nadya Tolokonnikova said“So, what I would be really scared of is Brittney hiding the fact that she is being heavily oppressed in this penal colony because that’s what happened with me.”

Tolokonnikova was threatened that the whole penal colony would suffer the consequences of speaking up about the abuses. So, she kept quiet about the torture for a year. Thus, Tolokonnikova feared that Brittney Griner might hide the details of her abuse from her friends and family.
