The Brooklyn Nets are currently 9-10 in the league. The return of Kyrie Irving surely has been a blessing for the Nets but they are still struggling to go on a winning streak of any sort. But it looks like trade rumors surrounding the Nets and the Atlanta Hawks could be beneficial for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but it could be bad news for Trae Young.

The Atlanta Hawks have reportedly opened trade discussions involving their power forward, John Collins. And the reason may be the addition of Dejounte Murray to the team. The Hawks had a good one-two punch in Trae Young and John Collins. In 2021, Collins signed a five-year $125 million deal with the Hawks.

But since the addition of Dejounte Murray to the team, Collins has become the third option on offense. Collins and Young had great on-court chemistry before Murray came along. And after his addition to the team’s starting lineup, the offense has been running more through the two guards.

In fact, the pick and rolls that fans were used to seeing with Trae Young and Collins have also changed a bit. Furthermore, Clint Capela has taken on a more offensive role that has possibly pushed Collins as the fourth option on offense.

And that is something Collins undoubtedly would not want since he is currently in the prime of his career. Collins is a high-flying power forward with great athleticism and can also spread the floor. Which would certainly help the Brooklyn Nets.

Currently, the Nets have Nicolas Claxton as their starting center. Even though Claxton is 6’11″, he tends to fall short in a physical matchup with other bigs in the league. Collins is a 6’9″ power forward who could help the Nets with their much-needed offense.

After Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Nets arguably don’t have much to offer on offense. And the addition of Collins would surely help the team on the offensive end. This would possibly take some of the load off Durant and Irving as well.

But what will the Brooklyn Nets send in exchange for Collins to the Atlanta Hawks? Brooklyn is already paying big money to Irving, Durant, and Ben Simmons. So, only time will tell if the two teams will agree upon a deal.

As for Collins’ production on the floor, it has really taken a hit since his rookie year in the league. Currently, Collins is averaging 12.3 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 1.3 BPG.
