Michael Jordan was a social personality. He used to vocalize his opinions on the issues he thought needed attention. We can never separate sports and social issues. Every sports person is a person himself as well. He/She will always have opinions about social issues. Although this is discouraged by the leagues, to uphold the spirit of the game, they still prevail.

NBA players and teams have opinions and sides on social issues which they are verbal about. Especially because of the diversity of players we see in the league, it’s also important to have opinions. Many influential sports personalities have also been vocal about their opinions in the past. However, Michael Jordan had once gone against a Social Justice Group.
Michael Jordan didn’t think Nike needed a ‘PUSH’
Operation ‘Push’, an acronym for People United to Save (later Serve) Humanity, was an organization that advocated black self-help and achieved a broad audience for its liberal stances on social justice and civil rights During their movements, they had once called for a boycott of the multi-billion dollar company ($172 Billion).
The reason for their movement against the company was that the operation thought there weren’t enough black executives in the company. To this, when in an interview with Playboy magazine, Jordan had a stern response. He had his agreement with the movement and had no problems with that. But, he believed that why was only Nike being targeted.

He said that every shoe company should be objected to it. Bringing a new perspective to it, he said, “the whole shoe industry does not have enough blacks in powerful executive positions. OK, I?m with you. Maybe we have to change that.”
But, to that, he added that instead of making assumptions, people in the industry should be asked. He mentioned a few black individuals in the executive and said that it’s not the way it seems. Jordan even mentioned the chances of him being on the advisory board.

Although, MJ supported the operation ‘push’ by saying that they had actually put many blacks into executive positions. He felt that the allegations against Nike alone were wrong. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments.
