Last month, Griner appealed against her nine-year sentence. There was very little hope from the beginning and the result turned out the same way. The Russian courts rejected Griner’s appeal and thus began her stay at the penal colonies. There have been various reports about the colonies being notorious for it’s living conditions. Several former inmates have spoken about their experience there and it has not been good.
Russia is yet to reveal where they have taken Brittney Griner to
During her trial and her appeal process, Brittney Griner was housed in a detention center near Moscow. But after her appeal was rejected, she was moved to one of the penal colonies. Her legal team confirmed on November 4 that she has been moved to a remote penal colony to serve her nine-year sentence.
Even though it has been nearly two weeks since she moved out of the detention camp, the US authorities and her family are unaware of her location. Reports suggest that the Russian government is yet to notify the White House about her whereabouts.
The White Principal deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel talked about the situation in a briefing. He said, “We are aware of the reports of her location and in frequent contact with Ms. Griner’s legal team, but the Russian Federation has still failed to provide any official notification for such a move of a U.S. citizen, which we strongly protest and disagree with,”
