Did Russell make less money?

In the end, Shaquille O’Neal pointed out that Bill Russell and other players of that era made less than one-fourth of what he made. The former Los Angeles Lakers player decided to stop complaining and work hard for everyone who paved the way for players like him.

Today, O’Neal’s net worth is estimated at $400 million, with his career earnings amounting to $292 million. With endorsements as a player, he earned $200 million. In sharp comparison, Russell earned around $100,000.

Considering everything Russell told him, Shaq admitted to being conscious enough to understand that he is a “spoiled brat”.
