$47 Million Decision From James Harden Could Be an Agent of Trouble as Joel Embiid’s 76ers Put Under Investigation Over Possible Tampering Charges

After a disappointing playoff exit, Philadelphia 76ers fans were left biting their fingernails. However, James Harden made a sacrifice that perhaps no one saw coming. Despite having a whopping $47 million option, he declined and took a major cut. Harden wanted to do his part to help the president of the franchise, Daryl Morey. This allowed the Sixers to sign two new pieces. But the NBA feels it was all part of a plan from the start.
The news first spiked when the Sixers got Joel Embiid the man he wanted in P.J. Tucker. After Embiid’s high praise, it all looked like a story. Tucker opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat to join forces with Embiid and Harden in Philadelphia. In addition, sharpshooter Danuel House also made his way over. None of this would have been possible without the 10-time All-Star’s ultimate sacrifice.

NBA's expected to pursue circumstances surrounding Harden declining $47M option to sign a 1+1 deal that cut salary to $33M and gave team more flexibility to sign Tucker and House. Some have wondered if another deal was already in place for future — which is against CBA rules.

Despite the violations, there is no way the Sixers can lose out on their new faces. In the past teams have gone through the same. Last season, it was the Miami Heat who faced punishment for tampering with the signing of Kyle Lowry. Forfeiting picks and even a hefty fine could hit the Sixers.
With a leader like Tucker anchoring the Joel Embiid-led Sixers, they arguably look scary ahead of next season. Moreover, James Harden had the entire off-season to work on his injured hamstring. Hence, there is a high chance that the Beard checks in fully fit and raring to go.
