NBA legends Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson are synonymous with basketball. On-court, they competed at a high level while managing to become good friends off-court. Their friendship spans over three decades and even to this day, they give fans bromance-worthy moments to gush about. One such moment occurred when Magic Johnson appeared on an episode of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’. 

As a point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, Magic dominated the 80s era. In the 90s, the baton was passed to MJ and the Chicago Bulls. After having retired, both Jordan and Johnson focused on building business empires. Presently, Jordan is a billionaire and Magic Johnson’s net worth is around $620 million. With that said, Magic Johnson is seemingly still up for a free gift every now and then, especially from his good friend Jordan. 

Magic Johnson calls Michael Jordan all the time 

In an episode of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ in 2016, Magic Johnson stated that he and Michael Jordan are friends. He said, “I call him all the time because I like his brand, Jordan sneakers, and his clothes.” He continued to say while smiling that he gets them for free, which sent Jimmy and the audience into a fit of laughter.

Jimmy continued this discussion by saying, “Shouldn’t he (Jordan) be paying you to wear those shoes and clothes around?” to which Johnson said, “When you are good friends, you don’t care about his money. I just want the clothes and the sneakers.” 

Friendship and trash-talking between Jordan and Johnson 

Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan were a part of the 1992 USA Olympics Dream Team. Being part of this team gave Michael Jordan and Johnson an opportunity to become close. In an interview, Magic Johnson said, “We played cards every night together, we worked out together, and it brought us closer together as friends.” 

Practice sessions were where the friendship possibly brewed the most. But it was also the place where Johnson trash-talked Jordan the first time. With the hope of “rattling his chain” Magic told MJ, “Hey man, if you don’t turn into Air Jordan, we gonna blow you out today.” What followed this was a typical dominant Jordan show which Johnson said ended in a 360-degree dunk with some incredible shot selections.
