What is the one thing everyone notices whenever Shaquille O’Neal makes an appearance? You guessed it right, it is his height. O’Neal stands at a phenomenal 7-foot-1 inch frame that made him one of the tallest players in the league during his time in the NBA.
Interestingly enough, Shaq made the former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, feel short during an event. The two were part of an initiative to promote children’s physical education. Other well-known athletes like Dominique Dawes and Allyson Felix were also part of the event.

During the proceedings, Michelle made a rather interesting comment regarding Shaquille O’Neal. She said, “I want to start by, of course, thanking Shaq for that very kind introduction, but for also being one of the few people on Earth who can make me feel small.
She added, “I know I can always wear my heels when Shaq is around, so I appreciate that.” Despite being quite tall, Michelle was nowhere near the Los Angeles Lakers legend.
This was not the first time Michelle Obama and Shaq teamed up for a public event. The 4 time NBA champion once partnered with Obama for her When We All Vote initiative.
Is Shaquille O’Neal the tallest NBA player ever?
Although Shaquille O’Neal has a humungous 7-foot-1 inch frame, he is nowhere close to the tallest player to ever play in the NBA. Gheorghe Muresan from Romania is regarded as the tallest player in NBA history.
He was 7-foot-7 inches tall and his game was much more than his height. Muresan led the league in field goal percentage during the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons. Subsequently, he was awarded the Most Improved Player award in 1996.
Muresan played in the NBA for 6 seasons and he represented the Washington Bullets and the New Jersey Nets. He retired with an average of 9.8 points, 0.5 assists, and 6.4 rebounds.
