The Texas Longhorns have come a long way since March Madness began. Under coach Rodney Terry, Texas swiftly made their way towards the NCAA Final Four, but eventually got knocked out by the Miami Hurricanes. Of course, part of the credit goes to Terry whose ascension to the position of Texas’ head coach brought a certain level of success to the team. Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant and NBA fans gave their flowers to Terry after his hard work was recently rewarded in the form of a multi-million dollar worth contract.

Coach Rodney Terry was initially appointed as the assistant coach for the Texas Longhorns. However, he was eventually named interim HC in 2022 after the former coach Chris Beard got caught up in legal issues.

After defeating Xavier Musketeers by 83-71 in the Sweet 16, Texas Longhorns moved to the Elite Eight to face the Miami Hurricanes. Despite dominating the game for the majority of the period, they fell short of the Hurricanes, who claimed victory by 88-81. Despite the loss, the University of Texas offered Rodney Terry the permanent position of HC along with a five-year deal worth $15.3 million.

The contract was signed a day after Texas’ defeat and coincidentally on Terry’s 55th birthday. This comes in just a day after Terry emotionally talked about his wish to remain the Texas coach. According to Cory Mose of KVUE News, he said, “It was all about this team, man, and I enjoyed every single day of this journey with this group. I’m going to really miss working with this group. It was never about me. It was always about these guys. I love these guys.”
