Michael Jordan is arguably the greatest player to step foot on the court. He is credited with making the league so popular and he is considered a global cultural icon. Throughout his career, he has broken numerous records and is in an elite club of his own. To be in the same club as His Airness, you would need to achieve something spectacular.
Cade Cunningham did exactly that. The Detroit Pistons hosted the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday at the Little Caesars Arena. They lost the game 105-110, but Cade secured a unique statline.
The number 1 pick ended the game with 34 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 blocks. He became the first rookie since Michael Jordan to get 30+points,8 reb, 8 assists, and 4 blocks. Cade Cunningham and Jordan are the only two rookies to achieve this since 1973.

How you can watch Cade Cunningham and not think he’s clearly the best rookie is crazy
— Ku (@KuKhahil) January 26, 2022
I like Evan Mobley. I like Scottie Barnes. I’m a fan of both. They aren’t Cade Cunningham though. Cade Cunningham is the rookie of the year and he’s clearly the best player in this draft class. All will be future all stars though.

Cade has so much more on his shoulders than any other rookie. I’m not saying that means he should be rookie of the year but he isn’t allowed to have off-nights. He doesn’t get to have other guys set the table for him. He’s the #1 guy. He also doesn’t take plays off on defense.

Cade Cunningham and his journey so far
Cade was drafted number one overall by the Pistons in the 2021 NBA Draft. He was a top draft prospect who came with a lot of expectations on his shoulder. The Pistons have been terrible the last few years, and they hoped Cade was that franchise player they were searching for, and he hasn’t disappointed so far.

Cade has been averaging 16.2 PPG, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.3 assists this season. He has looked good, and he is clearly the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.
Cade is a 6’8 220lbs guard with the skill set and physical advantage that can cause nightmares for smaller guards. He uses his size to his advantage, just overpowering everyone and reaching the rim. He is also a willing passer, which makes him harder to guard. Cade is also quick and agile for his size and he has a long wingspan, which helps him in defense as well.

His length and size make him a versatile player on the defensive end. The Detroit Pistons may have finally found that franchise cornerstone that they desperately searching for. They will hope that he can lead them to glory, as they haven’t been relevant in the last few years.
