Brittney Griner has been in Russia for over 200 days now. She was arrested in February and sentenced to nine years in prison. And the US government has been trying for months to get her back home. And the call for her release just got bigger as the US government just managed to get back 7 Americans trapped in Venezuela and a top Democrat has urged the President to get Griner and the others back as well.

The US government was reportedly negotiating the release of seven Americans for months. And they eventually got them back home after a prisoner swap program which sent two Venezuelans back home. The Americans were jailed for nearly five years and the US government was able to secure their release.

Top US Congressman urges POTUS to secure the release of Brittney Griner and others

After news started spreading that the US government was able to secure the release of the seven Americans trapped in Venezuela, a top US Congressman requested the government to secure the release of the others as well. He tweeted, I commend @POTUS for securing the release of 7 Americans who were wrongfully detained in Venezuela.”

The US Government has been working for months to secure Griner’s release. Griner was arrested in February at the Moscow airport and put on trial later. A Russian court found her guilty and sentenced her to nine years in prison. And ever since then, the two countries have been negotiating.

The US Government has reportedly offered a prisoner swap program to secure Griner’s release. The President, Joe Biden, even met with the families of those held in Russia. He assured them they were doing everything in their power to get them back home.

But this has been going on for a few months now and there have been no updates so far. But experts say this is a sign of good news as this means the talks are going on. Hopefully, we will get to hear some good news soon just like the situation in Venezuela.
