After Bagging $36 Million Contract, Sacramento Star’s $12,000 “Rookie Duties” Has NBA Fans Unfazed

The Sacramento Kings bowed out of the NBA playoffs after losing the seventh game of the series against the Golden State Warriors. The Kings won the first two games of the series but weren’t able to maintain their lead as the Warriors came back miraculously. The newly drafted Keegan Murray of Sacramento recently admitted that he had to pay the price of being a rookie during the season.

The newly drafted athletes in the league, also known as rookies, are often treated harshly in their first year to ‘welcome’ them to the ‘big boys club’. Keegan Murray got the same treatment by his Sacramento teammates.

Keegan Murray signed a four-year contract worth over $36 million. Recently, he revealed he had to spend about $300 on every road trip for his teammates at Chick-Fil-A. Turns out you are obligated to spend money for your team’s food expenses if you are a rookie in Sacramento. According to his claims he must have spent in excess of $12,000 during the course of the season. Many fans gave their take on the news. Here are a few things the fans commented on Twitter.

Fans were quite unfazed by the news, as according to them $12,000 is a meager amount compared to the money Murray’s going to make as a ball player. He currently has a $36 million contract and some fans speculated that he might make more than a hundred million through his career.

Keegan Murray averaged over 12 points, 4 rebounds and an assist in the regular season. He was the fourth pick of the 2022-23 NBA draft. As the season came to an end Murray has given the Kings organization hope for the coming years. The small forward dropped the most threes in his first season compared to any other rookie in the league’s history. It’ll be interesting to see his development as a ball player.

Sacramento as a team were phenomenal in the regular season. They were third in the Western Conference. They also beat the Golden State Warriors twice in the first round of the series. Although they were not able to get past the San Francisco side, they were able to give the defending champs a run for their money. Their head coach Mike Brown has done a phenomenal job with the team and will surely want his side to continue where they left off as the next season approaches.
