Shareef O’Neal, son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal once revealed that he had beaten his father in a one-on-one game. When the reporter asked who he would like to take on next, a 15-year-old Shareef disclosed his desire to play superstar LeBron James. A while ago, Shareef had opted for the 2022 NBA draft against his father’s advice. But he went undrafted. However, the Los Angeles Lakers gave him a spot on their Summer League team. After an unconvincing college career because of health concerns, he got the opportunity to display his prowess on the court.

Talking about playing his father in a one-on-one game, Shareef said, “Yeah, I beat him one-on-one.” The reporter then proceeded to ask whether Shaq talks about free throws with him. In response, Shareef said that he is good at free throws. The budding hooper also added that games against his father were not fun when he was shorter.

Afterwards, the reporter asked whether he has played against any other retired NBA players. And Shareef replied that he had played against NBA legends like Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady when he was 9 or 10 years old. However, he admitted that they “schooled” him.

Shaquille O’Neal is a proud father

Shareef O’Neal then revealed his dream pickup game opponent. He said, “I wanna play LeBron.” The reporter wanted to know whose jerseys he wears the most. And Shareef disclosed that he doesn’t really wear jerseys however said that he has the jerseys of LeBron James and his father.

With a spot on the Lakers Summer League team, the chances of him making the Lakers’ final roster were slim. However, with some minutes on the team, Shareef played decent. And his efforts did not go in vain. In fact, the 22-year-old hooper received an offer from G-League side Ignite. And he took to social media to share his happiness.

As a very protective father, Shaquille O’Neal did not want his son to declare for the draft because of his lackluster college career. He wanted the former LSU recruit to continue his education and keep playing college ball. But Shareef wanted to pursue his dream of playing professional basketball. Shaq later admitted that he is proud of his son.

The Big Diesel also compared his son to superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. He said that his son is “Giannis with a jump shot!”. Now that is a very huge claim to make. He then added that with some experience under his belt and with a coach who believes in him, Shareef could be a great player in no time.
