Kevin Durant faces criticism almost every year. It started with his decision to join Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in 2016. This immediately spurred a conversation about him seeking superteams. Over the last few seasons, this narrative has only gained more traction in the fan community. It even reached a point where KD was accused of running burner accounts to defend himself against all the online hate. However, this time, the ‘Slim Reaper’ shot back against trolls from his own Twitter account.

Fans were making claims about the media’s treatment of the 6’10” forward when Durant himself entered the chat.

This was seconded by a fan who retweeted the video. But he qualified his statement, saying, “He might have a point if KD wasn’t one of the most criticized players ever. KD couldn’t win titles and finals MVPs without getting ripped online so the whole basis of his argument is cooked.”

The two-time NBA champion could not help but jump in, tweeting, “Point about what?”

To that, another fan replied, “he has a point about how u protected by everyone in the media and everyone sweeps all your failures under the rug and ignores how u haven’t done nothing before and after golden state.

This ended up triggering the 12-time All-Star, who immediately snapped back with, “To say I’m protected by media is the most insane thing I’ve seen lol. Just tell me what u would like for them to say about me.”

Given the constant headlines surrounding Durant’s performance and personality, he was clearly not feeling any love coming from the media.

The video that started this whole debate claimed that Kevin Durant was getting the benefit of the doubt for many years. The creator was shocked that KD is considered a top-five player despite underperforming as a defender. But the fan who retweeted the video argued that the former MVP is not under the media’s protection since he has faced criticism for most of his career.
