After Brittney Griner, Yet Another Painful Blow for Phoenix Mercury as 40-Year-Old Star Set to Miss Rest of the Season Due to a Severe Injury

The Phoenix Mercury is going through their toughest patch. It all started when their best player, Brittney Griner was detained in Russia in February. Recently, the situation got worse as the former DPOY was sentenced to nine years in prison. In the midst of this mental battle, their season could also be in jeopardy. To add to the team’s misery, one of their leading stars, Diana Taurasi is out for the season.
At first, Taurasi seemed to have a minor quad injury. She missed the last two games for the Mercury. However, her progression has caused serious problems. Her age didn’t get her to slow down any bit as she was averaging 16.7 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in her 18th season. Widely regarded as one of the greatest WNBA players, Taurasi is the most important piece for the Mercury.

The Brittney Griner trial was only the start for Phoenix Mercury
At the moment, the WNBA playoffs are wide open. While Mercury is still in a safe spot, it is all a matter of one game. With a 14-19 record, they are the 8th best team at the moment. However, with three games remaining in the season, the Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx are just behind them. In a time of such desperate need, their most experienced veteran can only cheer from the sidelines now.
