Charles Barkley’s reason not to use Twitter

Most of the people have only just started to grow weary of Twitter. But there were some who made their apprehensions clear about the social media site early on. One of them was Charles Barkley.

Back in July 2013, Barkley gave an interview for CNBC?s ‘The Closing Bell’. During the conversation, lead host Maria Bartiromo reminded the former player about a comment he had made, which stated that “Anybody who Tweets is an idiot”. When asked if he still thinks that, Barkley said that he does.

He used the terminology of a ‘Homecoming Queen’ as a metaphor, stating that when the limelight is on her, then all the other girls hate her. Similarly, he feels that if he uses Twitter, then the limelight would be on him. This would result in having to endure hate from different people.

“When you’re famous, there’s mutated animosity towards you,” said Barkley. “Half the people like you and half the people dislike you. And I choose not to give those half that don’t like me ammunition. That’s all it is.”?

Elon Musk sets new limit

Elon Musk’s new release on Twitter stated that the company is applying temporary limits on how many posts a Twitter user can read. This, according to him, is being done “to address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation”. No information has been provided about how long these ‘temporary’ measures would be in place.

The limit count differs on the basis of whether an account is Verified, Unverified or newly unverified.

The measure comes just one day after Musk had announced that people won’t be able to read tweets from the site without an account.

Following the policy change by Musk, “Goodbye Twitter” was a trending topic in the US. Countless Twitter users have come out to express their disapproval over the decision. Even NBA player De?Aaron Fox tweeted his unhappiness over the new limits.

Given the current situation of Twitter, Barkley’s enthusiasm regarding the social media site may start to develop among other people as well. If that happens, then Musk’s changes will finally trigger the oft-talked about exodus from twitter.
