In a do-or-die game against the Chicago Bulls last week, the Dallas Mavericks decided to rest all their main stars. Slovenian guard Luka Doncic played just one quarter and Kyrie Irving did not suit up at all. Following this astonishing decision, the NBA decided to investigate the reason behind it. Seems like the Mavs plan did not get Commissioner Adam Silver’s green flag.

Following a fine of an exorbitant amount of $750 thousand dollars “for improving the chances of keeping a first-round pick“, Charles Barkley decided to share his thoughts on Mavs’ failed plan. The 1993 MVP mentioned, “The reason they got fined, they were stupid and talked about it”. Though Chuck may be right here, Cuban was forced to talk about the reason as fans continued to show their wrath towards the Billionaire for benching the game-changers.

Further, Barkley added, ” The NBA had to do something. My problem with the whole system has been, we reward losing, giving you extra ping pong balls [draft picks]”. Talking about the Mavs’ plan to tank for the upcoming season, the 60-year-old shared a solution to get rid of the problem.

The Chuckster shares a solution for NBA teams’ tanking situation

There is always a battle for first-round draft picks considering the star value and talents of college players. However, around the end of the season, it promotes a losing culture that the fans and veterans do not tolerate. Barkley mentioned in the show, “The last three or four weeks the teams are like ‘We need more ping pong balls[draft picks]’… One way I always said the NBA can fix that is, ‘Hey we are not going to give extra ping pong balls to keep losing last month of the season.'”
