

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has had a difficult start to his career. The youngster showed a lot of promise entering the NBA as a Number 1 draft. However, injuries held him back, and he faced criticism for his body shape. Talking on his podcast, a former Number 1 pick himself, Shaquille O’Neal, talked about Zion.

The hosts talked about how Shaq determines whether a player is a star or not, and he replied with highlights. Apparently, Shaq does not need to watch a full game, highlights are enough. While talking about some of the stars in the league, Zion Williamson’s name was taken by Shaq.

Although O’Neal has ridiculed Zion in the past for his injuries and his game, the 4 time NBA champion had nothing but admiration in this instance. Shaq said, “I looked at Zion Williamson’s potential to be a dog, so I can just tell him the highlights and, like, I don’t really need to watch a full game.”

When the host talked about Zion coming back from injury and looking good, Shaq had nothing but praises. He said, “I’m happy for him, I hope he has a great season.”

The New Orleans Pelicans boast of having a superb young core with players like Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson. However, Zion’s injuries have proved to be a major problem for the team.
He was drafted number 1 during the 2019 NBA draft over the likes of Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant and others. Since then, it has been a tough time in the NBA for Zion.

Williamson missed the entirety of the last season after he underwent foot surgery during the 2021 season. With Williamson likely to hit the court for the 2022-23 season, he will do that with a new contract. According to reports, Zion signed a five-year rookie max contract going up to $231 million.
