NBA superstar LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers had a season to forget last year. After acquiring former MVP Russell Westbrook, expectations were high. However, the Lakers crash landed as they failed to secure a playoff spot. James had a good individual season as he averaged 30 points per game in 56 games. The ‘Chosen One’ was also in contention for the NBA scoring title with the eventual winner Joel Embiid.

But others failed to pull their weight. Westbrook struggled throughout the season playing in the Lakers’ system. And Anthony Davis spent most of his time on the bench due to injury layoffs. He only played 40 regular season games last season. His injury-ridden last two years is a major concern for the Purple and Gold.

After the end of the season, head coach Frank Vogel was fired. And Darvin Ham has been hired as the new head coach. He has one of the toughest jobs in the league, leading one of the most successful teams in the NBA. Interestingly, Ham has talked highly about Westbrook. He said, “I’m thrilled to coach Russ. They try to dump on Russ, I’m like that was one of the things that got me excited about this job. He and I have had a great great rapport since I’ve taken over the job man. Just text messages, phone calls, dinners…”
