Shashana said, “He loves [Judaism] and really wants to be a part of it.” She added, “We really haven?t talked about it[publicly]”. As it turns out, Sabonis has been interested in Judaism for a long time. The news of the 26-year-old’s willingness to convert was also confirmed by Sherman, a Conservative rabbi.

Sherman also hosts a sports podcast Rabbi on the Sidelines. He said that Sabonis texted him after his game against the Houston Rockets, expressing his desire to learn more about Judaism. He said, “He?s always asking questions. He keeps kosher, and when he?s in Vilnius, he?s going to the kosher butchers to get chicken.”

Although Sabonis is fully dedicated to learning all about Judaism, his NBA responsibilities don’t allow him enough time. However, Shashana said that Sabonis is still making time to learn about this religion. She said, “He has to fly and he has to do those things, but he?s continuing his learning.” In August 2021, a Reform rabbi performed the marriage of the Sabonises. They have a son together, while Shashana is pregnant with their second child.
