The US Sports world seems to be united in their support of Brittney Griner. Athletes from the WNBA, NBA, football, MLB, and other sports have come out in support and have requested the US government to facilitate the WNBA star’s release. But there is one person who has been silent for all this time and the US soccer legend Megan Rapinoe has called her out.

Griner played her college basketball at Baylor and she was one of the greatest players ever at her institution. In fact, she had one of the best collegiate careers of all time and as a result, she was drafted number one overall in the 2013 WNBA draft. Incidentally, the coach of her team at Baylor was Kim Mulkey.

And she is now facing criticism for not speaking up for Brittney Griner.

Megan Rapinoe slams former coach of Brittney Griner

A lot of players have come out and slammed Mulkey for not supporting her former player. A few days ago, she was asked again what she thought about the situation. And she declined to comment on it again.

This was the last straw for US soccer legend Megan Rapinoe. She slammed the coach for not speaking up for Griner. Rapinoe commented on an Instagram post and expressed her disgust about the situation. She commented, “This is honestly just cruel and evil and even more honestly….ITS SHOWING SIS. That hate is seeping out. #weareBG”

This is not the first time Mulkey has been entangled in a controversy involving Griner. Back when she was the coach of Baylor and Griner was just recruited, she had reportedly asked BG to not talk openly about her sexuality. Griner did not find this okay, but she abided by it. The institution allegedly felt that the Phoenix Mercury star’s identity could affect their recruitment.

But it is rare to see a former coach not come out in support of a player. Especially since she has rallied the support of an entire country and countless other stars. And these stars are not happy to see Mulkey not using her voice to speak up for Griner.
