It has been a couple of months since Durant requested a trade out of Brooklyn. However, the Nets front office has failed to reach an agreement with any NBA team and have lately displayed little enthusiasm in progressing further negotiations. Instead, they have made their intentions clear to drain any interested party’s resources in exchange of the 33-year-old superstar.

Under such circumstances, Brooklyn appears to be KD’s best option left for the upcoming season. However, the 12-time All-Star is reportedly willing to play the long game to fulfil his objectives.

Kevin Durant could retire from the NBA
According to a recent report by NBA insider Marc Stein, Kevin Durant could threaten retirement to attain his demands. “If Durant hasn’t been traded by [training camp], there is a growing expectation in league circles that he will continue trying to cause as much of a ruckus behind the scenes to try to prod the Nets into lowering their asking price at last to facilitate a deal“, the report stated.

In other words, KD’s refusal to play could sabotage Brooklyn’s plan to play the long game. As a result, they might be coerced into settling for much less than they had previously anticipated. The report comes in the wake of owner Joe Tsai publicly backing the franchise’s management after his meeting with Durant.

Meanwhile, KD’s attempt could very much backfire. In fact, the 2014 MVP could potentially end up retiring if the Nets stay adamant in their stance.
