Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers won their 17th championship in franchise history and they would be hoping to repeat the same level of success this season as well. Although they are one of the favorites to win it all, there are several teams that could dethrone them.
For starters, their noisy neighbors, the L.A. Clippers could eliminate them even before the NBA Finals. But the biggest thorn in their path is none other than the Brooklyn Nets’ big three. After trading for James Harden, the Nets bolstered their chances of not only coming out of the East but finally winning some silverware.

LA Lakers star forward Anthony Davis recently opened up about the star-studded lineup of the Brooklyn Nets and said:
“They’re definitely a threat. They’re a team that can score at will. They’re a good team. I think they’re the favorites to win the East since [James Harden] went over there. It’s gonna be a battle.”
Although the Lakers themselves have one of the best lineups in the league, the Nets’ offensive prowess could cause trouble for the purple and gold. But one thing is for sure; if the two sides meet in the NBA Finals, the matchup has all the ingredients to be a stunning series.

While the Nets have a phenomenal offense, they still need to improve their defense. When the organization paired James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving, they had to give up some key defensive pieces.
On the other hand, the LA Lakers are a defensive juggernaut. Both Anthony Davis and LeBron James are more than capable of guarding the opposing team’s best players.
