There were both good and bad things that happened to the Los Angeles Lakers in the year 2020, but mostly we were all affected by the tragic death that occurred that year. Los Angeles’ former shooting guard was no longer among us. When the news came out at the start of that year, it was difficult for all of us to process it. The Lakers community cannot forget how much Kobe Bryant had contributed over his 20 years career.

In the same year, the team defeated Miami Heat in six games for the NBA title. This was a huge moment for the team, but it felt incomplete with the loss the NBA faced at the beginning of the same year.

Following the victory, Anthony Davis dedicated the victory to the late legend Bryant, who, alongside his daughter Gianna and seven others, died in a helicopter crash. For every NBA player and for the fans, it was an emotional moment. Watching a happy moment like that, but still missing out on many other things.

There was a void left in the celebration of the Lakers’ victory, especially since a player that everyone looked forward to was absent. Through Davis’s speech, we can see the grief they faced during that period. Besides Davis, Rob Pelinka also paid homage to Bryant after the win, as he added his feelings and the loss the team was facing at such a monumental moment in franchise history.

The absence of Kobe Bryant left the lakers feeling incomplete after their 2020 championship win

It was October 11 when the buzzer rang, bringing the 2020 NBA finals to a close. The final score was 106-93, which marked an impressive victory. Davis expressed his feelings after winning:

“It would have been great to do it in the last game in his jerseys, but it made us come out even more aggressive, even more powerful on both ends of the floor to make sure we closed it out tonight. And I know he’s looking down on us, proud of us. I know Vanessa [Bryant’s] proud of us, the organization’s proud of us. It means a lot to us. He was a big brother to all of us,” Davis concluded.
