NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in his latest podcast revealed how Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movie inspired him. In the latest episode called ‘The Big Chair Breaker’, O’Neal and Nischelle Turner discussed a multitude of things, including Brittney Griner’s unfortunate situation. Then Nischelle asked Shaq some fan questions and comments from social media. And, one of the questions from the fans was about Shaq’s time at the New York Film Academy. The fan attended the academy with Shaq in 2011 and wanted to know whether he remembers anything about it. Also, the fan wanted to know whether the class helped Shaq in his post-NBA career.

The Big Diesel said that he got into the academy luckily. He said that he was watching the Terminator movie one day and wanted to use it in his commercial. Shaq said, “So one day I’m watching Terminator. Oh, I need to put that in the commercial. So that’s what made me [makes knocking sound] and it opens and the great Bill Russell Rest In Peace. I got that idea from watching Terminator.”
And Nischelle was surprised and asked, “So ‘What’s the password?’ came from Terminator? Ooh!” And the Lakers legend said that he thinks it was during Terminator 2.
Shaquille O’Neal takes inspiration from Terminator
The commercial was one of the most iconic in NBA history. It had all-time great centers like the late Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, and a young Shaquille O’Neal. And the commercial would be a huge hit at the time like the Terminator movie. According to reports, Terminator 2: Judgement Day made around $520 million worldwide box office. And is one of the highly rated movies on IMDB.

During the podcast, Shaq also revealed that he designed all his commercials in his first 10 years in the NBA. He said, “So I wanted to knock on the door. The plasma open up. All the greats will be in there. I do my thing boom boom boom. They say something funny we get out.”
The Lakers legend revealed that he didn’t like the editing of the commercial. When Shaq let the director know, he got mad and left. So O’Neal decided that he has to be educated enough to be there. And not just because he was Shaquille O’Neal.

So he decided to join the New York Film Academy to educate himself about direction. O’Neal also said that his time with the academy has helped him throughout his career.
