Academy award-winning actor-turned-producer Riz Ahmed and actor Allison Williams recently announced the nominations for the 95th Oscars. The celebrities announced nominations for 23 categories during a live event covered by international media. Interestingly, the Academy also recorded its highest voting contribution in the organization’s history. Members from 80 countries participated in the process. However, unfortunately, Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s popular documentary, The Flagmakers, failed to make it to the Oscars nominations this year. Before recently missing out on a nomination, producer Giannis Antetokounmpo once reminisced about the inspiring details of his documentary.

The Flagmakers was released in late December 2022 and has been executive produced by Giannis Antetokounmpo. The National Geographic documentary provides a deep insight into the life of the immigrants who wish to achieve the ‘American Dream’. Despite having a unique storyline, The Flagmakers?missed out on an Oscar nomination. However, before the documentary’s release, Giannis expressed his feelings about his initial project as a producer.

Giannis Antetokounmpo shared details about in his documentary

The Flagmakers revolves around the lives of a group of immigrants who work in a flag manufacturing company in America. According to Greek City Times, Giannis Antetokounmpo released a statement in September 2022 where he shared his take on the documentary that is quite close to his heart. The 2021 NBA champ added, “As an immigrant myself, I find this incredibly personal and a deeply moving testament to those who call this country ‘home’.”

Further, Giannis Antetokounmpo added, “Each one of these inspiring individuals has overcome adversity and challenges in their lives and brings those unique experiences and stories as they craft the American flag.” The Greek Freak explained that the documentary focused on the challenges immigrants face in America during their journey to create a home for themselves in a foreign nation.

The Flagmakers has a rating of 6.7/10 on IMDB. The documentary was believed to be a contender for the Oscar nominations this year. But unfortunately, Giannis’ first project as an executive producer missed out on an exciting opportunity to win the Academy Award. However, it isn’t the first project Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a part of.

Antetokounmpo’s entertainment contributions

Apart from The Flagmakers, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a part of several other productions. The 2022 film Rise was based on the life of Antetokounmpo and his Nigerian-Greek brothers, Thanasis and Kostas. Moreover, the six-time All-Star also played some small roles in movies like Dead Europe (2012), Bo: Tha ‘thela (2010), and Finding Giannis (2019).
