Over the weekend, Hollywood witnessed two long-standing historical records being broken. However, according to Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson, one wasn’t celebrated like the other. On Tuesday night, LeBron James broke the long-standing record of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the All-time leading scorer in NBA history. Consequently, the King witnessed a star-studded tribute and love from millions that night. However, just a few days back in the same venue, another historic record was broken at the 65th Grammys.

Beyoncé became the most decorated artist in the history of the Recording Academy after winning her 32nd award. Though she witnessed a glowing response from fans and the industry, her tribute on the night was a fry cry compared to the King’s celebration arranged by the league. Therefore, 5x NBA champion Magic Johnson took to social media and complained about the Grammys’ ‘extremely disrespectful’ treatment of the pop icon.

At the 65th Grammy awards, Beyonce broke the record for the most Grammys won by a single artist ever after winning her 32nd trophy. She surpassed the late Greg Solti, who had amassed 31 trophies. Moreover, she also tied with her Billionaire husband Jay Z for most Grammy nominations in life at 88.

However, despite the historic feat, the Recording Academy had no dedicated tribute for their most decorated artist. Though Beyonce received major support from fans and other big names across the world, the lackluster treatment by the academy left a sour taste among many. Magic Johnson also candidly expressed his disapproval of the Recording Academy’s “extremely disrespectful” treatment.

In a series of tweets, Johnson openly lashed out at the Recording Academy and expressed his disappointment to his 5.3 million followers on Twitter.

In a follow-up tweet, he said, “It should have been a much bigger moment and celebration for her, her family, and her fans from around the world. I don’t know if something can be done, but to me, it was extremely disrespectful to Beyoncé and all of her work as an artist.”

However, even without Johnson’s findings, one could clearly see that justice was not done for Beyonce. Especially when compared to LeBron James’ tribute by the NBA after breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record.

NBA’s impressive celebration of LeBron James

The Lakers played the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. Around the final minutes of the third quarter, James finally broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record after scoring his 38388th point.

Consequently, the NBA stopped the game to play a celebratory video in James’ honor. Kareem  Abdul-Jabbar was also present to ceremoniously embrace James on the court and give his successor an honorary basketball. Commissioner Adam Silver also paid his respects. Likewise, NBA’s tribute continued till the following night.
