Christian Wood returned to face the Rockets after spending two seasons with them. The Mavs traded for Wood in the off-season after he had two excellent seasons with the Rockets. He had blossomed into a star and he could potentially be an All-Star.

The Houston Rockets took full advantage of Doncic missing the game, and they jumped out to an early lead. However, the Mavs were able to claw back, and the game was back and forth after that. But the Mavs dearly missed the three-time All-Star, as they struggled to create open looks. They missed a ton of threes as they went 12-55 from distance. The Rockets were able to hold on in the end to win 101-92 and secure just their third victory of the season.
