One of the most awaited star-studded events of the year was held on Monday and all eyes were on the A-list guests who graced the red carpet. Among the esteemed invitees were NBA stars Russell Westbrook and Shaq Gilgeous-Alexander. While they were forced to take an early exit from the NBA postseason, the two basketball stars seemingly decided to put their best foot forward for the 2023 Met Gala.

This year’s theme for the Met Gala was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. Influential figures from different fields made sure to pay tribute to the prominent fashion designer through their choice of inspired outfits.

Russell Westbrook and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander stun the Met Gala

To commemorate the theme and honor the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld, Russell Westbrook attended the event wearing a white tweed jacket and patterned pants by Bode. The jacket had black flowery clasps which was a nod to Chanel. He completed his look with a pair of black shoes and a pearl necklace.

Similarly, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander opted for tweed as well. However, while Russ stopped at one, Shai wore layers of jackets by Thom Browne. He wore simple black pants and a white shirt, but he enhanced his look with a black cummerbund and three layers of jackets. Looking rather debonair in his black and white ensemble, Shai completed his outfit with ankle-length boots and long pearl necklaces.

Russ and Shai were not the only basketball stars who attended the Met Gala. WNBA star Brittney Griner and Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade too showed up at the event with their respective partners.

NBA world reacts to Russ and Shai’s Met Gala outfits

When you are attending a red carpet-event, you know you are going to have thousands, if not millions, of eyeballs on you. While some will applaud your fit choice, others will critically analyze you. Fans were rather appreciative of the NBA stars’ Met Gala look. One fan applauded Shai and wrote, “I would take him as the best dressed male this year actually.”

Fans were also impressed by Westbrook as one user commented, “Okay this is fire”. This was the third Met Gala that Russ has been invited to.
