Name-dropping an NBA player in a song is a way of paying respect to the player, and LeBron James is not alien to this. There are over 75 songs where the artists have paid sort of a tribute to the King. ‘Fitted’ Cap by Rick Ross, Wale & Meek Mill; ‘I’m Everything You Wanna Be’ – Young Dolph; ‘Don’t Hurt Me’ – DJ Mustard feat. Nicki Minaj & Jeremih; these are just a few songs out there where artists have honored LeBron James.
Jay-Z has name-dropped LeBron several times over his career as a music producer. Arguably, his most popular song, ‘Empire State of Mind,’ gave a shout-out to the King as well. ‘Blow The Whistle’ is another Jay-Z song that features LeBron’s name. Jay-Z featured in a song recently, with producer DJ Khaled, and Rick Ross, on the song ‘GOD DID.’ It was not surprising that one of the verses in the song had a mention of LeBron James.

The lyrics gave a shout-out to fellow icons in the industry like Kanye West and Rihanna as well. Jay-Z went on to pay his respect to LeBron James even though he is not part of the Hip-Hop industry.

The lyrics said, “Hov, did please, Lord, forgive me for what the stove did; nobody touched the bill until Hov did. How many billionaires can come from the Hov crib? Huh, I count three, me, Ye, and Rih. Bron’s a Roc boy, so four, technically.”
LeBron also loved the song and even tweeted about it a couple times. It is well known that LeBron is with great terms with “Hov” and this was just another example of mutual respect between the two superstars.

Rihanna and Kanye probably owe their stardom to the legendary producer, Jay-Z. They rose to fame through Jay-Z’s tutelage. Rihanna’s fame came after she signed with Def Jam, and Kanye’s first ever interaction with the industry was through Jay-Z. Jay-Z refers to himself as ‘Hov,’ and according to the lyrics of his latest song, four billionaires came from him and his house of icons.

According to Jay-Z, LeBron James is part of his record label, ‘Roc-A-Fella Records. LeBron and Jay-Z are close friends, and it was once rumored that Jay-Z was heavily trying to recruit LeBron to the Nets after his Cavalier stint.
