As a basketball player, Michael Jordan was not fun to be around. While ‘His Airness’ had all the skills, he was a terrifying individual on the court. His motive was always to bring the best out of his teammates, but his approach was rather hostile.

Through the years, there aren’t many friends Jordan made in the NBA. However, those who did find the right bond with him remain to be some of his closest friends to this day. One of them is Charles Oakley. While talking to Shannon Sharpe, Oakley described the deep bond between him and Jordan as the six-time NBA champion gave him his blind trust.

Oakley came into the league only a year after Michael Jordan. But as soon as he touched Chicago, he found an instant bond with MJ. The two became best of friends and would always hang out with each other. It got to the point where Jordan was upset when the Bulls decided to trade Oakley away.

However, despite them being rivals, the two never lost respect for each other. And while Oakley spoke to Sharpe, their bond really came to the surface.

While Oakley was still in process of writing his book, MJ trusted him enough that he blindly wrote a foreword for him without even asking for the book first.

Oakley was speaking about how having Jordan in his early days helped him. Moreover, he also got to speaking about the bond they share. He shared a story regarding his book, ‘The Last Enforcer: Outrageous Stories From the Life and Times of One of the NBA’s Fiercest Competitors’.

He shared how he asked MJ to write a foreword for him. And Jordan trusted Oakley to such a high degree that he didn’t even ask for the copy of the book before writing his part. Jordan simply said he would send it in three to four days’ time.

The foreword said: “When you’re going through a tough situation, it always helped to have some protection. To have someone you can count on by your side to have your back. For me, in the game of basketball, that was Charles Oakley.”

Oakley explained the trust Mike held in him. Jordan knew there was no way Oak would rat out anything bad about Jordan. Hence, he never asked to see what was in the book in the first place and Oak did not disappoint him.

Coming to the foreword, Jordan was always a victim of fouls. So in the time, the duo played together, Oakley would always stand up for MJ on the court. He and Michael Jordan just shared a bond that ran deep even as the Hall of Famer approached the end of his career.

When in his last stint Jordan went to the Wizards, he finally got to reunite with Oakley. While they were best friends, the duo never won a championship together. But despite going through the heat of the competition, Oak said they never fight because of the immense respect they share for one another.
