Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson’s contribution to the sport of basketball is unmatchable. The game we love has been revolutionized and renewed thanks to them. Their achievements in the game are unbeatable as well. Playing with or against them is a dream for every basketball player, both past and present.

Michael Jordan’s Bulls won six championships with him as the centerpiece. Similarly, Magic Johnson’s Lakers have won 5 championships under his leadership. Both are legends in the sport of basketball, and were rightly inducted into the Hall of Fame. Having been rivals on the court for most of their careers, how is the relationship between the two?
Magic Jordan
Magic and Jordan were both as competitive as it gets. A matchup with them going against each other would be deadly, considering the fierceness and aggression they played with. In an interview with playboy, when Michael was asked about the relationship with Magic Johnson, he said that earlier things were strained between the two of them. But later, they became good friends after ironing out their differences. When asked about their relationship earlier in his career, he gave a funny anecdote.

“I liked him when I was in high school. They used to call me Magic Jordan. My first car had a license plate with Magic Jordan on it. It was a 1976 Grand Prix,” said Jordan. The Bulls legend is very fond of cars, and even owns a 2010 Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir, a very rare car with only 12 models worldwide.

Clearly, this shows how meticulous he is about his car collection. So, when he says that he had a Magic Jordan license plate, it sure means a lot. It just shows how much respect he had for Magic when he came into the league.
Lessons for the younger players
Both of them, being All-time greats, them having such respect and admiration for each other is noteworthy and serves as an important lesson for the upcoming generation of players in the NBA. This is a lesson for the budding players that, no matter how well you play, always have respect for your opponents and rivals.
