Griffin’s deal with the Boston Celtics
Blake Griffin entered the off-season as a free agent. In the latter half of September, it was reported Griffin signed a one-year contract with the Boston Celtics. Fans hoped that Griffin would give the team some frontcourt depth “some frontcourt depth, especially with center Robert Williams out several weeks following knee surgery.”
Since the start of the season, Griffin has played a total of 7 games for the Celtics. With an average of 3.4 points per game, the impact of Griffin’s experience has been rather minimal. However, his advice and suggestions have helped the Celtics’ players.
After the game win against Oklahoma City Thunder, Marcus Smart revealed how Griffin’s advice helped him during the game. The defensive player of the year (2021-22) said, “Blake Griffin actually was telling me, ‘Right now, guys aren’t hitting. (If you’re) in the paint, take your shot.”
