It’s very common to idealize heroes, especially when you’ve spent so many hours looking at them on the big screen. When we watch the hero punching the villain, we often forget that such fight scenes are heavily edited. Sometimes, the hero’s attributes are so vastly amplified that we may not even recognize them off-screen.

And Charles Barkley, the 11-time NBA All-star, would promptly agree to this. His run-in with two of his favorite stars, Stallone and Schwarzenegger, turned out to be very disappointing. Barkley never got his great fanboy moment and here’s why:

The “Traumatizing” fanboy moment

During an episode of GOLF’s, NBA legend and analyst spills the beans about his encounter with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Barkley recalls this huge star-studded party happening at Planet Hollywood. The party created a lot of buzz because of the presence of several television and movie stars. Amidst all this merriment, Charles gets acquainted with Sylvester Stallone. 

And boy, was he stunned!

Arnold, The Rocky, Schwarzenegger, was standing right in front of Barkley and the moment left his jaw open.

Poor Charles had a hard time believing he was standing in front of The ‘Rocky’ who knocks the daylight out of Apollo Creed. Charles describes Rocky as a solid “two-two.” It was difficult for him to believe how “tiny” Stallone appears in real life. Charles stood there, disappointed, completely unaware of what was going to happen next!

Arnold Schwarzenegger moved to greet Chuck and for the latter, this was it! This moment was everything to him.

He’s excited and nervous at the same time, just a few seconds before meeting Arnold. On the podcast, Charles mentions his desire to meet Arnold. He says “Hey, yeah I wanna meet the Terminator. It’s gonna be cool.” But, little did he know, was set up for disappointment!

The moment he turns around, to greet Arnold, who according to him was “like two feet.” 

This really left him disappointed.

Arnold, along with Stallone, manages to awe audiences. Sylvester Stallone’s take on The Rocky sets imprints in our hearts we still can’t erase. When, on screen, Arnold is a cyborg assassin, the Terminator, he definitely takes our breath away. In real life, no matter how different they look, the actors do manage to mesmerize their fans.

Charles says, “If you have to have killing people and beating up on people you want to see a big old tough guy when you are a big fan like it’s it…cracks me up!” 

For Charles, Schwarzenegger looks tough only on screen. In reality, he’s probably “like five-nine and five-six.”
