Dennis Rodman is one of the most eccentric athletes of all time. While he achieved numerous accomplishments as a basketball player, his life off the court garnered more attention. If there is someone who could rival Rodman for his outlandishness, it is the legendary Mike Tyson.
Regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, ‘Iron Mike’ was a no-nonsense personality. Both Rodman and Tyson faced various difficulties in their lives that led them to where they are now. Rodman acknowledged the fact that he had a similar upbringing to Tyson.

Rodman was a guest on Tyson’s ‘Hotboxin‘ podcast a couple of years ago. He mentioned how he appreciated everything Tyson did in his career, especially after having a tough childhood. He said, “I think our life is so parallel, as far as how we been brought up and stuff like that.”
“That’s amazing that we really didn’t have any guidance, any direction, as far as like we just want to do our profession“, revealed Rodman. Mike Tyson had previously stated that he used to be part of street fights on a regular basis as a kid. He was only two years old when his father ran away and his mother passed away when he was 16.

Similarly, Rodman’s father also wasn’t there for him. He was kicked out of his house by his mother and briefly lived on the streets. “When you meet good people in the beginning that’s putting you in the right direction to do something very well, that’s very heartfelt“, Rodman said. He continued, “Because once you’ve been abandoned when you’re like a youth, like between 12,13,14 years old, you feel like you’re lost.”

Dennis Rodman and Mike Tyson will be remembered for a long time
While Rodman wasn’t the best player on his team, his contribution could not be questioned. He was a master in rebounding and led the league in rebounds seven times. His tenacity was unparalleled and he ended his career with five NBA championships.

Tyson, on the other hand, was one of the best boxers of his time. He holds several records in boxing and his endeavors earned him the nickname, ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’.

Two of the most eccentric personalities in the history of sports shared a similar path to success. They have definitely stamped their mark on their respective sports and will be remembered for a long time.
