Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has given his take on the recent ongoing controversy. NBA star Kyrie Irving has been in the spotlight for quite some time now. Ever since he posted the controversial tweet, he has been the primary target of harsh criticism. Several media personalities and analysts have condemned his take on the matter. LeBron James’ statement on the Irving controversy was reported by The Athletic on November 5, 2022.

Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving received heavy backlash after he tweeted about a movie that supposedly contained antisemitic tropes. Things turned worse after Irving defended his post during a media interview. When he was asked to comment on the controversial post, Irving stated that he would not “stand down on anything that he believes in.” Shortly afterward, the Nets announced that Irving would not be made available for the next media interviews.

LeBron James stays firm on his beliefs

It seems like LeBron James is not willing to go soft even for his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate. The four-time NBA champion acknowledged that Kyrie Irving’s recent actions have hurt several people. James said that a person’s genetic and physical attributes didn’t matter when they choose to promote harmful beliefs. Furthermore, LeBron made it clear that he did not condone hate toward any race or community.

“You guys know where I stand. And that’s part of the reason why I didn’t air ‘The Shop’ episode, why we kicked that out of the archives. Because it was hate conversation going on there. And I don’t represent that. There’s no place in this world for it,” the Los Angeles Lakers superstar said.

Several weeks earlier, James had decided to scrap an episode of ‘The Shop’ that featured the polarizing Kanye West. Before Irving, West had garnered negative attention for his own antisemitic comments and actions. According to Maverick Carter, co-founder of the Springhill Company, they had believed that West would be appearing on the episode to have a civilized conversation and clarify his previous comments.

“Unfortunately, he used ‘The Shop’ to reiterate more hate speech and extremely dangerous stereotypes,” said Carter.
