Brittney Griner is learning to retake control of her life after returning to the US, following ten months of detention in Russia. The WNBA star landed in Texas early morning on December 9. As per her agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas, Griner spent her first weekend at home with a haircut, basketball, and a San Antonio barbeque. Recently, a CNN Correspondent revealed BG’s reaction regarding fellow prisoner Paul Whelan ‘immediately’ after being freed from Russia.

A Senior Correspondent at CNN Abby Philip recently shared the details about what Brittney Griner had been up to since her return to the US. Philip shared that BG was greeted by her wife, Cherelle Griner, and her agent, upon landing in Texas. Moreover, one of the first things she did was have a Dr. Pepper. The CNN correspondent also revealed that the WNBA star’s broader family visited her during the weekend.

Philip reported that Griner was doing well physically. The 2016 WNBA champ is going through a government-run psychological rehabilitation to feel more in control of her life. The senior reporter also suggested that Brittney Griner’s experience has inspired her to fight for the cause of American citizens who have been detained abroad. The two-time Olympic gold medalist wants to use the power she has been provided recently to further their cause, as per Philip.

Meanwhile, Abby Philip also talked about Griner’s ‘immediate’ reaction regarding Paul Whelan when she finally gained her freedom. She revealed that Brittney Griner was carrying the weight of all the families whose loved ones remain detained worldwide.

Citing the account of BG’s agent, Philip stated, “She[Griner] asked about Paul Whelan immediately upon, you know, being freed, and she has known for a long time that or believed for a long time that her fate was very much tied to his. And I think was heartbroken that he was not brought home along with her.”

The senior correspondent also added that Griner is really invested in ensuring Whelan’s safe return to America. As a result, she intends to use her platform to help him get back his freedom.

Philip also pointed out that Griner was committed to her goal and planned to use the mass support she has to help others in the future.
