The Dallas Mavericks had a disastrous ending to the 2022-23 NBA season. The team is now out of playoff contention after looking like a legitimate title contender in the early stages of the season. To add insult to injury, Luka Doncic trade rumors have made Mavericks fans further anxious as they look to remodel the team for the upcoming season. However, this latest update regarding Doncic’s future with the team might allow fans to breathe a sigh of relief.

The Dallas Mavericks were once sitting comfortably as the fourth seed in the Western Conference earlier in the season. Subsequently, the trade with the Brooklyn Nets to bring over Kyrie Irving made the Mavericks a fan-favorite in the postseason. However, things went downhill for the Texas side pretty quickly after that.

Luka Doncic clears the air on his future

Things certainly did not go as planned for Dallas as they went on a downward trajectory immediately after the Kyrie Irving trade. Despite Irving’s great offensive skills, opposing teams took advantage of the Mavs’ weak defense to get the upper hand. 

As long as Luka Doncic was the sole ball-handler on the court, the Mavericks were thriving and going on long win streaks. However, since the addition of Irving to the team, not only did the team’s overall record take a hit. but the team chemistry on the floor suffered as well. 

Recently, Doncic sat down with reporters to clear some air on the trade rumors surrounding him. When asked about his stance on his future with the team, Doncic said, “It was funny you know, because I didn’t know that was true, because I didn’t say it.”

As the reporter tried to rephrase what he meant, Doncic also said, “I don’t know what you’re saying but I’m happy here. So there’s nothing to worry.”

Fans still skeptical about Luka’s intentions

Even though Luka Doncic made it clear that he is quite happy playing for the Dallas Mavericks, fans are still skeptical about his future with the team.

After viewing the interview, one fan commented, “Honestly can you blame him for wanting a trade after that??”

While another fan dropped a comment saying, “Luka is going to have to look in the mirror this summer. Especially with fitness and play style. Defense as well.”
