As far as the off-season trade window is concerned, the Dallas Mavericks have not been the most proactive. Barring a few mid-table deals, the team has not really gone in for any big buys. This is contrary to what everyone expected of the side, which desperately needs someone that can help Luka Doncic. The 22-year-old led a one-horse race for the Mavericks last year, and wouldn’t want to do the same again. Should the Dallas Mavericks have shown more intent in the market?

‘Can’t do it by himself’: ESPN’s Stephen A on Luka Doncic

Youth brings out the best of one’s abilities, as is seen in the Slovenian superstar Doncic. The guard-forward is one of the most talked-about players in the league. He has made a name for himself and continues to improve on his numbers every year. Yet, Doncic lacks the support that can build the caliber of his side. When he has an off-day, there is always a feeling of a sinking ship, as nobody else steps up consistently.

Renowned ESPN analyst Stephen A analyzed the importance of the team needing to build around the giant attacker. “As good as Luka Doncic is, he can’t do it by himself in Dallas. Even though he averaged 31 in his debut playoff series a year ago. Dallas still lost in the first round. Even though he averaged 35 this year in the playoffs, putting up 46 in Game-7, Mavericks still lost to the Clippers. There’s not much more Luka can do, but there’s a hell of a lot more Mavs owner Mark Cuban can do,” exclaimed Stephen.

Last year, the Dallas Mavericks were knocked out by the LA Clippers in seven tight games. There was this feeling of ‘what if’ in the minds of all Dallas fans following their exit. Provided the side had someone to shift the limelight off Doncic, perhaps they could’ve gone the distance. This is exactly what Stephen A also felt of the situation.

Speaking on his show, he demanded that the Mavericks owners wake up. “I’m serious here. The city deserves better. It’s time for Mark Cuban to do what it takes to build an actual roster. Luka needs more than a coach; he needs talent around him.” The experienced analyst was evidently unhappy with the side’s underwhelming response to their loss.
