The Chicago Bulls are not having the best year so far. With a 31-37 season record, the Bulls are currently the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference. Despite making changes to their roster and bringing Patrick Beverley to the team, the Bulls have not been able to turn things around. To add to their misery, a disheartening update on their $35 million worth star has left many in disbelief. Moreover, it could very well be the end of his career in the league.

Chicago Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball was sidelined halfway through the season last year. Ball suffered a season-ending injury to his knee. It was reported that he had a small tear on his meniscus. However, the 25-year-old hasn’t suited up since and this latest update only compounds the issue.

Lonzo Ball already underwent two knee surgeries in the hopes of coming back to the court for the Bulls. However, the pain did not subside, as was reported by his camp. This has kept him out of the Bulls rotation for the entirety of this season as well.

Now, according to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski, Lonzo Ball may undergo a third surgery on his knee. It is expected that Ball may miss out half if not all of the 2023-24 NBA season as well after the procedure.

Ball last suited up for the Bulls on January 14, 2022, in a game against the Golden State Warriors. He has not played a game for the Bulls ever since. And now, he may end up missing this season and the next as well.

This certainly is concerning news not just for Lonzo Ball, but for the Bulls as well. Although, both sides are optimistic that this third procedure on his knee will most probably be able to salvage Lonzo’s playing career.

According to the update by Woj, Ball said in a statement released by the team, “This has been a frustrating process, but I’m confident these next steps are the best path forward.”

Troubles at the point guard position for the Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have been trying their best to fill the gap that Lonzo Ball left. However, nothing has come to fruition despite their endless efforts. The Bulls brought in Patrick Beverley to add depth to the point guard position. While Beverley’s addition initially added a spark to the team, their performances have been indifferent.

Even veteran point guard Goran Dragic was added to the roster but was eventually let go from the team. If that weren’t enough, the Bulls’ front office even tried to play Alex Caruso in the point guard position in Lonzo’s absence.

However, nothing has worked out so far for the team. One can only hope that the third surgery on Ball’s knee works out and he can return to the court soon.
